CANTON -- The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton is looking for nominees for their Rachel Summers Grant Social Action Award.
Each year, the church recognizes a St. Lawrence County resident who is making a difference in our community in memory of Rachel Summers Grant.
The award was established in 1990 and honors the work of those who work, as Rachel did, to make the community a more humane and progressive one. Nominees should exemplify the following characteristics:
• promotion of local grassroots efforts as a means of achieving social change
• advocacy on behalf of social justice, especially for those who are marginalized in some way
• active involvement in a variety of local groups working for a better community
• leadership in promoting social justice and change
• history of organizing, involving, and supporting community members in pursuit of social justice
Nominations should explain how the nominee exemplifies the above criteria and be sent by April 25 to socialaction@uucantonny.org, or mailed to Social Action Committee, Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, 3 1/2 East Main St., Canton, NY 13617.
