CANTON – Village trustee Dwight H. Stevenson has formally announced his resignation from the village board effective Aug. 21.

Stevenson has accepted a teaching position in the Saranac Lake area and plans to relocate.

He presented the mayor and the village board with his resignation letter at their meeting last week.

“Working on behalf of the people of Canton for the past several years as a village trustee has been an honor I will cherish forever,” Stevenson read from his resignation letter.

“Though I was not born here, Canton has truly been a home since moving here four short years ago. Thank you for the opportunity to serve, it has been one of my life’s greatest honors,” said Steveson. “Opportunity may take me elsewhere, but a piece of my heart will certainly always remain here in Canton.”

The now former trustee was sworn in to the village board on Dec. 12, 2016.

His term was set to expire Dec. 5, 2018.

“Dwight, thank you for your service, I’m sad to see you go,” said village Mayor Michael Dalton. “You participated and jumped in and there is something to be said for that. I thank you for your service, we appreciate it. I know the community does.”
