Canton Tree Committee hosting public tree planting Oct. 30
Wednesday, October 20, 2010 - 6:23 am

CANTON – The Canton Tree Committee, with the support of the Village of Canton and the Canton Community Fund, is organizing a public tree planting work party for Saturday, Oct. 30 at 9 a.m.

The tree planting work party is part of Canton's contribution to the recent 10/10/10 Global Work Party Day sponsored by the environmental organization 350.org. On Oct. 10, 2010, citizens from around the world showed they wanted to do something that will help deal with global warming by acting locally.

The location chosen for Canton’s planting party is the northeast corner of Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s E.J. Noble Medical Building parking lot on East Main Street. The Canton Tree Committee selected this site because it is a main entryway to the village.

The Canton Tree Committee is seeking volunteers for the Oct. 30 planting party. Anyone interested in participating should meet at the northeast corner of the C-PH E. J. Noble Medical Building at 9 a.m. Wear outdoor work clothes and work gloves; bring a round-point shovel if you can.

The Canton Tree Committee is seeking donations for future plantings next year and beyond. Tto donate to future tree installations, send your tax deductible check to: The Canton Community Fund, Box 142, Canton, NY 13617. In the memo line, write: Canton Tree Committee.
