CANTON -- The 2017 budget proposal now before the Town Council would increase the total levy from 2016 by about one-half of one percent, below the projected property tax cap of .68 percent for this year.
The tax rate for property owners would go up from the current $2.50 per thousand dollars of assessed value to $2.55 per thousand.
The budget contains slightly more for recreation and for road construction and maintenance, according to councilor Bob Washo.
The proposal will go before the public at a hearing scheduled for Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal building, before the regular council meeting at 6.
