CANTON -- The town board is supporting a petition to lower the speed limit on county Route 21 extension.
The board has directed town highway superintendent Terry Billings to submit the request to the county sometime this week.
The petition, signed by 32 town residents, was submitted by Randy Sharlow and requests that the speed limit be lowered to 30 miles per hour on County Route 21 Extension (a section of the Canton-Pyrites Road) down to Churchill Street in Pyrites.
Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley said the request will be reviewed by the county and then passed to the state for consideration.
