CANTON – A Canton woman who told deputies she was trying to avoid a cat in the road Sunday crashed her pickup truck, breaking a utility pole, and injuring herself and a passenger.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies say Briana R. Sibbitts, 17, of the Irish Settlement Road, and her passenger were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

National Grid came and reset the pole.

No tickets were issued.
