CANTON – A Canton teenager faces a felony charge after allegedly making “terroristic threat” on social media Tuesday.
Canton Police Department said an investigation revealed that the suspect’s post included a threat to kill one or more individuals at the school.
A 17-year-old male student, a resident of Canton, was charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony. Canton police said they would not be releasing the name of the student.
He was subsequently arraigned in Canton Town Court where he was released to a family member and is scheduled to reappear in court on June 7.
“The Canton Central School and the Canton Police Department take these matters seriously. The safety of the student body, its faculty and staff are paramount and any and all measures will be taken to ensure that the school remains a safe and secure place in our community,” a release from Police Chief James Santimaw said.
