CANTON -- Canton Central School and St. Mary's Catholic School invite all students, parents, faculty and staff to participate in the "International Walk to School Day" on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Sponsored by the community's Safe Routes to School Committee, the event is designed to promote safe walking and bicycling throughout the year. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to walk or bike to school that day, if at all practical.
Those living in locations that do not allow for safe walking or biking access to school may take advantage of a "Park & Walk/Bike" option by parking in the St. Lawrence County Court parking lot on Court Street between 7:15 and 7:45 am and then walking or biking with your children to school.
Getting home at the end of the school day for these students will be by their normal mode of transportation. Participants are asked to "Think Safety." Riders are reminded to wear a helmet, observe traffic safety rules, and bring a bicycle lock.
