CANTON – Power has been restored to all but 28 customers in the Canton area, according to National Grid.
More than 840 in Canton and nearby Potsdam lost electricity Monday afternoon following a circuit breaker failure at the substation south of St. Lawrence University, according to Joseph M. Gilbert, director of the St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services.
By about 5 p.m., the number of customers still without service had dropped to 366 and officials warned power might not be restored for another 12 hours.
Canton Central School and St. Lawrence County offices were among the more than 840 National Grid customers that lost power Monday afternoon.
At 6 a.m. today, National Grid was predicting the remaining 28 customers without power would have their electricity restored by 8:15 a.m. today.
