CANTON -- The detour around the road work in downtown Canton officially opens Monday.
The detour, which runs from Riverside Drive to State Street to State Route 310, is to reduce through-traffic congestion on U.S. Route 11 – Main Street -- as work continues on the road project.
The work will result in a rebuilt roadway, new storm drains and sidewalks, and intersection improvements.
The detour will remain as a designated route until the project shuts down for the winter, and will be put back in service in the spring.
During operational periods, the intersection of State Street and Riverside Drive and the intersection of State Route 310 and State Street will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Message boards will advise drivers.
The work is expected to be done by autumn 2013.
