CANTON -- Canton voters will also be voting on the Canton Free Library’s request for an additional $12,000 in funding at Canton Central School’s budget and board member balloting May 21.
Proposition 3 on the ballot will bring the total to $89,000 for the Canton, Morley and Rensselaer Falls libraries for the next year.
According to Canton Free Library Board of Trustees President Tom Langen, the additional funding will come to three cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
Langen notes that the St. Lawrence County Legislature dropped its funding of libraries in its most recent budget.
The money will go toward things such as children’s programs, hardcover books, newspapers, DVDs, e-books, e-readers, and computer maintenance and upgrades.
Voting on the 2013-2014 district budget, library funding, school bus proposition, and candidates for the board of education will be held on Tuesday, May 21 from noon to 9 p.m. in the high school learning resource center.
To be eligible to vote, one must be at least 18 years old on May 21, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the school district at least 30 days prior to the election.
Voters do not need to be registered to vote in the school election.
