Potsdam Central School District and Canton Central School District are finalists for a grant of up to $25,000 in the 2013 Grow Rural Education program of the Monsanto Fund.
The school districts applied for grants up to $25,000 through America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education.
The program supports the enhancement of rural school districts, specifically in math and science education.
Last year, Canton Central School’s agriculture program, guided by Carol Wright, the school’s agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, was awarded $10,000 from the fund for a new project using aquaponics to grow vegetables and aquatic creatures in the same tank.
A panel of educators reviewed applications and sent the strongest submissions for consideration by the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Advisory Council. The council, comprising farmer-leaders in agriculture and education will select the winning grant applications from this pool of finalists.
Winners will be announced Tuesday, Aug. 26.
