POTSDAM -- “The Incredibles” team was the winner of the St. Lawrence Health System’s physical activity challenge, a wellness initiative launched in May as part of the System’s “CPHealthy/GHealthy” Program.
Senior hospital executives led each team of employees. One team joined from Gouverneur Hospital and eight teams came from Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Participants received discounts to purchase digital fitness trackers and monitored their progress through the “WalkingWorks” website, a project of BlueCross/BlueShield.
Over the six-week challenge, members of The Incredibles logged at total of 3,466 miles, with the average mileage per team member at 173.
According to Director of CPH Wellness and Sustainability Laura Cordts, more than 230 employees participated in the challenge, covering more than 28,900 miles, which exceeds the distance around the earth.
“We have some great athletes on our work force,” Cordts said, “including employees training for the TinMan and the IronMan, marathoners, competitive cyclists, hikers completing the 46 High Peaks, and many others. However, the primary goal of the challenge was just to get everyone moving a little more, and to add activity to everyday routines. That’s why we focused on team participation and average miles, not individual performance.”
