Canton-Potsdam Hospital volunteers meet adopted platoon

Members of the U.S. Army’s Delta Company 3-71 CAV from Fort Drum gather with Canton-Potsdam Hospital volunteers Wednesday, Aug 1 at Sandstoner Park in Potsdam. Holding the commemorative shadow box presented by the platoon are CPT Paul Amis, Commander of Delta Company, and Lyndsay Macagg, CPH Volunteer and Community Events Coordinator.

POTSDAM – Canton-Potsdam Hospital volunteers who “adopted” a platoon at Fort Drum had the chance to meet with the soldiers today.

The U.S. Army’s Delta Company 3-71 CAV joined CPH volunteers for a picnic at Sandstoner Park in Potsdam followed by a tour of the hospital.

The troops brought many close to tears when they presented to the hospital volunteers a shadow box containing an American flag flown by Delta Company during its deployment, and thanked them for their donations.

The hospital volunteers donated numerous care packages and wrote letters to the troops while on deployment from August 2011 through February 2012. When Delta Company returned to Fort Drum in March, the two groups soon began talk of an official meeting.

A photo album from the day’s events can be seen on the CPH Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cantonpotsdamhospital.
