POTSDAM -- A group of staff members from various departments at Canton-Potsdam Hospital got together for an afternoon of friendly softball competition at Sandstoner Park in Potsdam on Saturday, Aug. 11, and the winner was the Potsdam Humane Society.

Planned as a competition between the Environmental Services Department and Medical Surgical Units 2 and 3, team rosters eventually included nursing staff from other departments and support personnel and human resources representatives, among others. The teams decided that they would support the Potsdam Humane Society through donations from the players.

More than $100 was raised by the players and presented to the Humane Society.

Director of Respiratory Care Services Dennis Maid joked after the game, “Environmental Services won the game in a hard fought battle utilizing unorthodox pitching methods and alternate field hitting.”

In response, Director of Environmental Services Charles Sweesy said, “Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts' probably lost. In all seriousness, it was a fun game for a good cause and a good time for all of us.”
