Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild donates $58,000 to Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation

POTSDAM -- The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild recently presented their annual donation to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation, this year amounting to nearly $58,000.

The gift is to be used towards such patient care items as beds, a defibrillator, a vital signs machine, a Neo Blue Bili Therapy Lamp, patient mobility equipment, and more than $6,000 in smaller grants for departments and projects across the hospital.

At their recent annual meeting the Guild elected officers including President Suzanne Dougherty, Vice President Sue Law, Secretary Kim Jones, and Treasurer Mary Jane Smalling.

The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild was formed in 2017, through the unification of the E.J. Noble Guild and the Potsdam Hospital Guild.

“It just made sense to combine resources, talents, and creativity to support our mutual purpose,” said Suzanne Dougherty, guild president . The former E.J. Noble Guild of Canton was formed in 1951 and the former Potsdam Hospital Guild was formed in 1933. Over the years, the combined total raised by the Guilds is nearly $2 million.

An eighteen member Guild Board of Directors plus dozens of Guild volunteers donate thousands of fundraising hours to the Hospital, through providing assistance at blood drives and hospital events, staffing the CPH Gift Shop, raising funds through in-hospital book and uniform sales, and from community events including a Christmas tree raffle, trivia night, and a golf tournament, with all proceeds benefitting the hospital. The Guild also supports the Center for Cancer Care, SUNY Canton Nursing Scholarship Program, and continuing education scholarships for CPH employees.
