CANTON -- The Canton Village Police Department is warning people of the dangers of leaving their pets unattended in a vehicle, especially in hot weather.
With the temperatures and humidity climbing, the department is urging everyone to leave their animals at home instead of bringing them along for the ride.
The police have been taking numerous calls a day to check on dogs left in vehicles while the owners are elsewhere.
Even with windows cracked open or left down five inches or so, the heat inside a vehicle will soar quickly and will become an oven for a pet, officers warn.
