CANTON – Police Chief Lori McDougal is reminding the public, particularly students in the area of the footbridges and Riverside Drive, to stay away from frozen waterways.
“It is almost impossible to gauge how deep the ice is in that area and the potential danger to life exists if you fall through,” McDougal said.
She said the Canton Police Department received a complaint Wednesday of two people walking across the ice near the footbridges. Fortunately, McDougal said, they made it across without falling through.
“They not only risked their lives, but other lives as well, who would have been put in harm’s way to attempt to rescue them,” the chief said.
