CANTON -- The Canton Park & Fountain Campaign has surpassed an initial goal of $100,000 for the restoration of the fountain in the Canton Village Park.
“We are thrilled to announce that the donations for the Fountain have reached over $104,100!” the campaign announced on its Facebook page.
“Thanks to all your efforts, we will be able to get the work done on the Fountain and hope to have it flowing for Dairy Princess Weekend in June,” the organization said.
The plan is to use that money for a new pump, pipes, masonry, and restoration of the overall structure and for work on the surrounding area.
The next phase of the project will include the upgrading of the walking paths in the park. The last part of the campaign will be a $25,000 enhancement of the park's green space, according to the group.
Aside from its attraction as a place for people to gather, sit, read, talk and walk, the village park, also known as the village green, is used for events all year long, including the twice-weekly farmers’ markets in the growing season.
The fundraising campaign continues.
To send a donation in the form of a check may make it payable to The Canton Park & Fountain Fund, and mail it to them at 17 Park Street, Canton, NY 13617.
