CANTON --- Former St. Lawrence County legislator and congressional candidate Tedra Cobb says New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman must be held accountable for recent accusations of physical violence toward women.

Facing serious accusations about his personal conduct, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned overnight, effective at the close of business today.

In a story broken by The New Yorker, four women accused the Attorney General of physical abuse, which in certain cases culminated in death threats. Two of the accusers allowed their names to be published and openly told their stories, providing photographic evidence of their claims. They specifically cited the praise Schneiderman received in the prosecution of Harvey Weinstein as a reason to step forward.

“Attorney General Schneiderman’s resignation is beginning of holding him accountable for his abuse. It is a reminder that we must increase services for women in abusive relationships and raise awareness of the support systems and resources available to all victims. We should not just focus our outrage at public officials who abuse their power. Instead, we must thank the brave women who have spoken out and focus on empowering those who will never receive news coverage for their struggle,” Cobb said.

Cobb is hoping to unseat Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
