CANTON – The village board has authorized town highway superintendent Terry Billings to accept a bid on a new dump truck for the highway department.
The $115,630 bid is for a new Western Star 4700 truck from Tracey Freightliner, which has locations in Watertown and Syracuse.
Acceptance of the bid is pending further review by town attorney Charles Nash of a shared purchasing agreement through Onondaga County, which could help the town realize some savings with the new acquisition.
The new truck features a Detroit diesel engine and Tough Tracks suspension, which Billings said is similar to other town trucks which have held up well in terms of maintenance.
“So far these trucks have been very cost effective,” Billings said.
The new vehicle will replace a 1995 truck which will be retired.
