PIERREPONT – A Canton man was jailed Monday after being arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a Canton woman.
Joshua J. Lake, 28, previously of 56 Post Rd., was charged with second degree kidnapping, first degree rape, criminal sex act first degree, reckless endangerment first degree, unlawful imprisonment first degree, third degree assault and second degree menacing, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies said the woman called the 911 center about 6:30 a.m. to report she had been held against her will overnight and had been beaten and sexually assaulted.
She was able to escape from Lake and run to a neighbor’s house where she was let into the house and police were called, deputies said.
The woman was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was treated for injuries sustained during the incident, deputies said.
Lake was arraigned before Pierrepont Town Court Justice Robert Camp and sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bail bond.
The investigation continues and further charges are possible, deputies said.
