CANTON -- A Canton man has been arraigned on charges of assaulting a police officer in January and is in the county jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
Richard C. Harrison, 28, allegedly assaulted Canton Police Officer Kevin Mousaw on Jan. 14 as Mousaw was attempting to take him into custody on a request from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
“He became combative and head-butted Officer Mousaw, who was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for his injuries,” said Canton Police Chief Lori McDougal.
Chief McDougal said Mousaw is still on leave for injuries sustained in the alleged assault, including a concussion and chipped teeth.
Harrison, who has been in the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg, was released Wednesday, and Chief McDougal met him and took him to arraignment before Canton Town Justice Cathleen O’Horo on charges of assault on a police officer and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
