Canton man charged with two felonies following assault of woman who lives with him

CANTON – James A. Regan, 23, Gouverneur Street, faces multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted a female who lives in the same house as he does.

After an investigation by Canton Village Police of a May 14 family incident, Regan was charged May 17 with second-degree obstruction of breathing: strangulation, and second-degree assault, both felonies.

He was also charged with unlawful imprisonment 2nd degree, harassment 2nd degree and unlawful possession of marihuana.

The complaint of the incident was received on May 14 and Regan was arrested on a warrant issued by a Canton Town Justice on Friday, May 17, according to village police.

Regan was arraigned before Canton Town Justice Kathleen O’Horo and committed to the county jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond for a return appearance on June 5.

An order of protection was issued for the victim, who sustained serious injuries to the right eye and left shoulder, police said.
