CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies charged a man after crashing his car with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit and then fleeing the scene.
Gerald L. Dean, 34, of Old Route 11 is charged with aggaravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated and running a stop sign, deputies said.
While driving with a blood alcohol level of .23 percent, he crashed his car at the intersection of state Route 68 and Irish Settlement Road after blowing through a stop sign, according to the sheriff's office.
He fled the scene on foot and was collared a short distance away, deputies said.
A BAC of .08 percent is the legal threshold for DWI and .18 percent for aggravated DWI.
Dean was released with appearance tickets for Canton Town Court, deputies said, adding that Canton Village Police assisted them.
