POTSDAM – A Canton man was charged with two felony driving while intoxicated counts early Friday after police determined he had been driving with nearly three times the legal blood alcohol limit and that he has a DWI conviction in the last 10 years.
Joseph J. Schneller, 32, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated: prior conviction in 10 years, and felony aggravated driving while intoxicated: blood alcohol content of .23 percent well above the threshold for a DWI charge of .08 percent; and a felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation charge, with having an open container in his vehicle, and public urination.
Potsdam Police said they approached Schneller at 1:59 a.m. Friday in the Main Street parking lot, as he was not parked properly and the engine was running, police said.
Schneller was arraigned before Village Justice Pignone and was held in the county jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
