Joseph H. Snickles, 51, 15 Commerce Lane, is charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident, a Class E felony, and criminal tampering, a misdemeanor.
At about 9 a.m. Sunday, while at the Dairy Queen fire scene, Canton police officers were called to respond to the S.R.O. house at 15 Commerce Lane for a fire alarm activation.
Officers were told by a supervisor that a resident of the house was observed attempting to activate the alarm with a cigarette lighter and by blowing cigarette smoke at it.
Snickles was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Canton Town Court Aug. 15.
Canton Police were assisted on scene by West Potsdam Fire Department members.
