POTSDAM — A Canton man was charged with driving while intoxicated and drug possession Wednesday morning on Market Street, according to Potsdam police.
James T. Saber, 19, Canton, was cited for first-offense DWI and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance at 5:28 a.m., officers said.
Police responded to a complaint of a male subject sitting in a parking lot for a few hours.
After making contact with Saber police detected the odor of consumed alcohol on him and he was asked to complete a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, officers said.
He was transported to the Potsdam Police Department where a breathalyzer test revealed his blood-alcohol test (BAC) to be .14 percent, police said.
While in custody Saber was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Police did not specify what the substance was.
Saber was issued tickets returnable to Potsdam court Dec. 6.
