POTSDAM -- A Canton man was charged with driving while intoxicated after Potsdam police say they found him slumped over in his vehicle with the motor running at the intersection of Clarkson Avenue and Maple Street Thursday morning.
John W. Gardner, 22, was charged at 5:09 a.m. with first-offense DWI and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, officers said.
Police said when they awoke Gardner they could detect the smell of alcohol emanating from him.
He was reportedly transferred to the Potsdam Police Department where a breathalyzer test revealed a blood-alcohol content of .09 percent.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable to Potsdam Village Court July 10, police said.
