CANTON – A Canton man was jailed Sunday after being arrested for second degree burglary for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a car, three rifles and other items.
Canton village police said Justin J. Brunell allegedly burglarized a home at 16 Buck Street at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, stealing a 2012 Toyota Rav Four, three rifles, alcohol and household items. He was sent to St. Lawrence Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bail bond after being arraigned in front of village Justice Storie, police said.
The vehicle was later located in the parking lot of the Cascade Inn, West Main Street. After a search of the area, most of the stolen items were also discovered hidden outside the area of the Cascade Inn. police said.
Another item stolen during the burglary was then recovered shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday when police executed a search warrant at 3 High St., apartment 20, occupied by Brunell and Margo Kidwell, police said.
Police also said that all property reported stolen from a March 23 burglary at 22 Miner.
Police said more charges are expected pending further investigation.
