CANTON -- The Canton Free Library will receive $3,150 in construction funds from the state, according to Sen. Patty Ritchie.
The money can be used for projects that include making upgrades, increasing handicap accessibility and reducing energy consumption, a statement from Ritchie's office says.
The governor's 2014-2015 budget had called for slashing statewide library funding by $4 million. Ritchie says she was part of a push to increase library funding by $1 million over last year.
“The libraries throughout Central and Northern New York are such fantastic resources for taxpayers in our region; offering books, new technology and countless community activities,” Ritchie says in her release.
