CANTON -- The Canton Fire Department hosts a full-scale mass casualty drill starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.

This drill will test the county mass casualty plan for the Town of Canton.

“People will see lots of ambulances and fire trucks that day,” said Erik Johnson of the Canton Fie Department.

A simulated accident will take place on the Brewer Road, which will be closed from 9 a.m. until noon allowing local residential traffic only.

A helicopter will most likely land in the area.

Many ambulances from throughout the county will take part and over half of the fire and rescue departments could be called upon during the drill. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles will be placed within the town during the drill.

The simulated accident will involve 15 patients, all to be transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital as a “large surge” drill for the hospital’s Emergency Department as part of the accreditation of the department.
