Canton district sets school budget hearings and voting day

CANTON -- Canton Central School District holds hearings on its next budget and capital project at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in the Williams High School Learning Resource Center, followed by a regular board meeting.

Voting on the 2015-2016 budget, a transportation proposition, capital improvement project propositions I and II, a Canton Free Library proposition, and candidates for the Board of Education will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 also in the Williams High School Learning Resource Center.

All are welcome at the hearings.

In order to vote, a person must by at 18 years old by the date of voting, a citizen of the United States, a school district resident for at least 30 days before the vote, and not otherwise prohibited from voting under the provisions of Section 5-106 of the Election Law.

Voters do not need to be registered to vote in the school election.

Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained from the District Office weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Completed applications must be returned at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 19.
