CANTON -- The Canton Community Blood Drive will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, East Man Street, on Monday, Aug. 9.

There is a particular need for O-negative blood. All blood types can receive type O-negative red blood cells. That's why it's used in emergencies when there is no time to determine the blood type of the patient.

It's also why O negative donors are in very high demand.

The American Red Cross and Staples are giving away one Netbook every day in August for participants in various blood drives.
