CANTON -- The Village of Canton Tree Committee is seeking people who are interested in serving on a volunteer committee involved with planning and implementing tree plantings throughout the village.
The group meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month in the board room in the Canton Municipal Building, 60 Main St.
Recent accomplishments include a tree planting adjacent to the E.J. Noble Building parking lot, and a planting at Canton Island Park, formerly Willow Island.
The committee is working to revise the village’s tree ordinance to better protect and promote trees on village-owned lands.
The committee is also planning two more tree plantings this spring.
“Our goal is for the village to attain ‘Tree City USA’ designation from the Arbor Day Foundation,” said Committee Chair Joette Holgado, “which can help open the door to additional resources for future tree plantings.”
Meetings are open to the public, and people with an interest in trees and enhancing the village’s tree canopy are encouraged to attend.
