CANTON -- Residents of the Canton Central School District are invited to participate in two community forums that will help inform the Board of Education’s decision-making in crafting the district’s budget for next school year.
Although Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed executive budget for 2012-13 includes a small increase in the overall school aid allocated to the school, it falls far short of that needed to preserve essential programming and staff, according to the forums announcement from the school.
Reports from the school board indicate that dozens of positions and several programs could be dropped to reach a balance between expenses and available funds.
The Board of Education will have to make some difficult decisions about what will and what will not be preserved, and they would like community input.
The forums are set for March 8 and March 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the high school library.
All interested school district residents are welcome to participate in the forums. Those who would like to attend are asked to RSVP by Tuesday, March 6. Contact the district office at awaters@ccsdk12.org, or 386-8561, ext. 203.
