Canton Booster Club holding new fund raising campaign allowing sport specific donations

CANTON -- The Canton Booster Club is holding a new fund raising campaign that allows donors to target gifts to a specific sport.

The campaign will run through the 2013-2014 school year. A recent change in the club’s charter allows supporters to make a tax-free donation to the sport of their choice.

“Alumni have been telling us they want to directly support the specific programs that most impacted their time at Canton Central School” stated Athletic Director Bill Porter.

Another change in the charter allows the Booster Club to support all levels of school sports from the modified level through varsity level.

“A lot of memories were made and character traits were built while participating in high school sports, so there is a willingness to help keep these opportunities alive for future athletes, Porter said”

Recent cuts to the school budget have forced cuts in all athletic programs and the elimination of others. The Booster Club is hoping the funds from the campaign will help mitigate these losses.

The Booster Club is hoping this will be a team effort with alumni reaching out to former teammates to help spread word of the campaign.

“We’re hoping that the competitive spirit of our former athletes will kick in and push them to try to raise the most funds for their sport,” said Porter.

Donations can be mailed to The Canton Booster Club, PO Box 243, Canton, NY 13617 with a note indicating which program each donation is to be directed; otherwise it will go into the Booster Club’s general fund.
