CANTON -- The Canton Area Zonta Club has reached its goal of raising $10,000 to endow an annual scholarship at SUNY Canton given to a single parent returning to college.
The endowment creates ongoing money, thus ensuring that one SUNY Canton student will receive assistance with college expenses annually.
The funding is a result of donations made by the Canton community and sales taken in by the club’s Zonta Store.
Club members established the Zonta Store four years ago and sold a wide variety of items, many of which were made or donated by Zonta members and "Friends" of Zonta in the community. From the beginning, all monies raised have gone to endow the scholarship
The store organizers, Linda Fay and Sigie Barr-Sapp, said they are grateful to Zonta members who made and donated items as well as those who staffed the store in many places around the county and the state.
Community supporters include The Pear Tree, Lisa Gardner of Specialtea Teas, Sun Feather Soap, and Misty Hollow in Potsdam. T they provided support and advice as well as materials, given to add to the store’s inventory. Special thanks go to Norwood residents Chet and Linda Cota of "In HIS Time" who generously provided inventory and support.
