CANTON -- The Canton Area Zonta Club recently received congratulations on its 30th anniversary from the organization’s International President Sonja Hönig Schough of Sweden.
The Canton club received its charter in August of 1986 and has remained active in the area during the past three decades.
“You are now a 30-year- old club with history and traditions," wrote Schough in a congratulatory letter. "Together, with nearly 1,200 clubs around the world, the Zonta Club of Canton Area has contributed significantly to improving women’s lives and empowering them so they can develop their fullest potential. Thank you for your efforts and support.”
The Canton club Area Zonta Club annually awards scholarships to local students and donates to the Warner Cancer Center and Canton Free Library, among other organizations.
Shirley Norton is the club’s remaining charter member and Julie Miller of Canton Tire is the current president.
