CANTON — Canton and Heuvelton residents were injured in a "serious two-vehicle motor vehicle accident" on State Highway 68 Saturday night, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies responded to a reported accident shortly before 2 a.m. and upon investigation discovered that a vehicle driven by Jack G. Palmer, 20, Heuvelton, was headed northwest near the Pike Road when he swerved to miss a deer and exited the opposite side of the road.
The Palmer vehicle rolled several times in the ditch before coming to a rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic, officers said.
A vehicle driven by Jeffrey L. VanBrocklin, 44, Canton was driving southeast when it struc the Palmer vehicle, deputies said.
Palmer was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and flown to Fletcher-Allen hospital in Vermont.
A passenger in the VanBrocklin vehicle, Angie A. Hill, 37, was transported to CPH for chest and abdomen pain.
VanBrocklin was uninjured.
Sheriff’s were assisted on scene by Canton Police Department, Potsdam Rescue and Canton Fire and Rescue.
The investigation is still open and charges are pending, officers said.
