WADDINGTON – An unattended candle has been listed as the cause of blaze that damaged most of a bedroom of at a McGinnis Road home Sunday.
The Waddington Volunteer Fire Department responded at 11:17 a.m. to the house owned and occupied by the Ken and Tracy Mitchell family after a next door neighbor noticed smoke coming from the eves and called 911, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
Fire officials believe the blaze started when the candle ignited clothing in the bedroom. Damage to the 83 McGinnis Rd. home was contained to the bedroom, investigators said.
None of the four occupants was injured and the owners said the building was insured, fire officials said.
Firefighters returned to the station at 2:01 p.m.
