OGDENSBURG -- The St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund is giving Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center’s Richard E. Winter Cancer Center $10,000.
The grant is part of the proceeds from the recent Edward I. Moses Walk and Run for Life, which took place in the spring.
For many years, the group has given Claxton-Hepburn grants that are used for cancer prevention, education, free screenings, outreach and treatment. Over the last three years, the grant funds have been used to provide 60 free colonoscopies for the uninsured.
This year’s grant will be used to fund 18 free colonoscopies and 30 free lung cancer screenings.
St. Lawrence County is among nine counties in New York with the highest lung cancer rates.
For more information about the free colon and lung cancer screenings, call 713-5251.
