Correction: Due to incorrect information provided by federal prosecutors, an earlier version of this story said Andrew J. Farnham was charged. He was in fact the arresting officer. The man who was charged was Donald Johnson. NorthCountryNow.com regrets this error.
CANTON -- Donald Johnson, 34, of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, was arrested here and charged Thursday with unlawful reentry of a removed alien, according to United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian.
A criminal complaint alleges that Farnham, a Canadian citizen, unlawfully reentered the United States after having been deported in 2011.
Johnson made his initial appearance yesterday before United States Magistrate Judge David E. Peebles and was ordered detained pending further proceedings in the case.
The charge filed against Johnson carries a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 1 year.
This case is being investigated by United States Border Patrol, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicolas Commandeur.
