Campaigns for 9 contested St. Lawrence County legislature positions underway; primaries in three districts

CANTON -- The race for seats on the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators is underway with primary races taking place in three districts.

All 15 seats are up for grabs. Members serve four-year terms.

In District 2, which includes Lisbon, David Forsythe will face off against Russell Finley for the Republican nod.

In Distract 7, which includes parts of Potsdam, Republicans Kevin Beary and Erica Leonard will compete for the party nomination. In District 14, Massena, James Hidy and Joel Grigg are both hoping to secure the Republican nomination. Nicole Terminelli and Gloria Gran are seeking the Democratic nod.

Candidates for St. Lawrence County Legislator are as follows:

• In District 1, which includes Ogdensburg, James E. Reagen is running on the Conservative, Independence, and Republican party ballot lines. He is currently unopposed.

• In District 2, which includes Lisbon and parts of Ogdensburg, Democrat Sam Lamacchia is challenging incumbent legislator David Forsythe, who is running on the Independence and Republican lines. Forsythe also faces a challenge for the Republican line from Russell Finley, which will force a primary race.

• In District 3, which includes parts of Ogdensburg, Oswegatchie and Rensselaer Falls, Michael Hammond is running on the Democratic and Conservative lines. He is challenging incumbent Joseph Lightfoot, who is running on the Independence and Republican lines.

• In District 4, which includes Hammond, Macomb, Rossie, Fowler, Edwards and Pitcairn, William Sheridan is running on the Republican, Independence and Conservative lines. He is being challenged by Barbara A Finnie, who is running on the WEP and Democratic party lines.

• In District 5, which includes Gouverneur and DePeyster, incumbent Henry J. Leader is running on the Conservative, Independence and Republican Lines. He is running unopposed.

• In District 6, which includes DeKalb, Hermon, Russell, Fine and Clifton, incumbent Larry Denesha is running on the Independence, Conservative and Republican lines. He is running unopposed.

• In District 7, which includes parts of Pierrepont, Clare, Parishville, Colton, Piercefield and Hopkinton, incumbent Rick Perkins will run on the Democratic, Conservative and WOR lines. He is being challenged by Kevin Beary and Erica Leonard who will face off in a primary for the Republican ballot line.

• In District 8, which includes Madrid and parts of Canton and Potsdam, incumbent Kevin Acres will run on the Conservative, Independence and Republican lines. Kaitlin Tyndall, who is running on the Democratic line, and Mark Deon, who is running on the WOR line, are challenging him.

• In District 9, which includes part of Canton, incumbent Daniel Fay is running unopposed on the Democratic and Conservative lines.

• In District 10, which includes Potsdam, David Haggard is running on the Democratic and Women’s Equality party lines against Republican Nicholas Pignone.

• In District 11, which includes parts of Potsdam and Stockholm, incumbent Chad Colbert is running on the Conservative, Independence and Republican party lines against Nance Arquiett, who is running on the Democratic and Women’s Equality lines.

• In District 12, which includes Norfolk and parts of Potsdam, incumbent John Burke is running on the Independence, Republican, Democratic and Conservative Lines. He is unopposed.

• In District 13, which includes parts of Massena and Brasher, incumbent Tony Arquiett is running on the Democratic party line. He is unopposed.

• In District 14, which includes parts of Massena, James Hidy is running on the Conservative and Republican Party lines against Democrats Nicole Terminelli, Gloria Grant and Republican Joel Grigg. Primaries will be held for the Democratic and Republican nominations. Terminelli is also running on the Women’s Equality and Working Families party lines.

• In District 15, which includes Waddington, Lousiville and part of Massena, Rita Curran is running on the Independence, Republican and Conservative lines. She will face off against M. Shawna Cecot, who is running on the Democratic and Women’s Equality lines.
