STAR LAKE -- Slic Network Solutions says the planned repair of a section of backbone fiber optic cable damaged in a storm earlier this month was successfully completed this morning, and telephone service is restored.
"The repair went as planned," said Slic engineer Jeff Yette.
The repair required an interruption to service but the repair was finished and service was restored at 1:05 a.m. in Star Lake and Newton Falls and at 2:45 a.m. in the Fine service area.
The telecommunications company says the cable was damaged in a storm Aug. 5 when several trees were knocked down, breaking electric lines, which in turn burned a fiber-optic cable casing on County Route 27A.
