PARISHVILLE -- Parishville-Hopkinton Central School taxpayers will vote May 16 on a projected 3.15 percent tax increase that would raise an additional $113,530 for the district.

The projected budget this year is $11,304,405, an increase of 2.61 percent last year, which was $11,017,014, PHCS Superintendent Wayne Walbridge said.

The proposed tax levy is $3,713, 984, which would be an increase of 3.15 percent from $3,600,454, during the 2016-17 school year.

PHCS expected to receive $6,604,114 in state aid. This is an increase of $213,945 or 3.35 percent versus last year, he said.

Walbridge said the 3.15 percent tax increase is not official until assessments are completed later this summer.

Because there were talks of the state budget possibly not being passed until late May, the BOE approved the hiring of a tech support position in preparation of the 1:1 Chromebooks computer program as part of the Smart Schools Bond Act.

The program is expected to roll out this fall with students in K-12 expected to receive Chromebooks.

Taxpayers can attend a budget hearing and presentation May 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the school.
