POTSDAM -- A new “Buddy Bench” in memory of a Potsdam Central graduate was proposed to the Board of Education meeting Tuesday, according to Superintendent Joann Chambers.

The new bench would be in memory Blake Londraville who passed away in 2015.

The bench, plaque and recognition would be paid for by Dr. Richard Londraville, Blake’s brother. It would include a small plaque, about 3 inches by 6 inches mounted on the back. The plaque would read “In memory of Blake Londraville, everyone’s buddy. Donated by his family.”

Chambers said Blake was described as “always being a good friend to others.”

“Buddy Benches” are designed for children who do not have someone to play with at the playground.

“If a child is sitting alone on the bench — it is a way to encourage other children to play with them,” she said.

The location of bench has not been finalized with possibilities including the main playground and a separate courtyard area.

The bench proposal will be heard by the building and grounds committee before the board of education votes to approve the “Buddy Bench” at a future meeting, Chambers said.

The Board of Education meets again Dec. 13.
