Frigid temperatures across St. Lawrence County were record breaking for the second consecutive day as lows of 32 below zero were reported in Star Lake and 30 below zero in Canton, according to Weather Underground.
The previous record set in 2000 was 16 below zero at KGTB Wheeler-Sack International Airport in Fort Drum, which is the nearest National Weather Service recording station for Star Lake and Gouverneur.
Gouverneur reportedly had lows around 30.8 degrees below zero last night.
The northern portion of the county experienced the harsh conditions as well with temperatures in both Ogdensburg and Canton reaching 30 below zero breaking the previous record of 29 below in 2005, according to Weather Underground.
All official temperature records for the northern part of the country are recorded at the Massena International Airport, which is the closest National Weather Service recording station.
Lows in Massena dipped to 24 below and Potsdam was reportedly 21 below, according to Weather Underground.
Records could be broken all week as lows are expected to remain 20 below zero and worse through Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
