CANTON -- A $600,000 contract for bridge deck replacement on Rt. 68 over Grannis Brook in Canton has been awarded, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.
The governor's announcement covers $31.3 million in projects around the state through the NY Works program for critical repairs to 13 bridges in the North Country and Capital Region.
The bridge work has been awarded to Kubricky Construction Corp. of Wilton, Saratoga County, and design consultant VHB Engineering, Surveying & Landscaping Architecture of Albany.
The project was announced in April, along with several “pavement preservation treatment” projects:
• U.S. Rt. 11 from Canton to Potsdam at a cost of $1.02 million.
• U.S. Route 11 from Walmart to Market Street in Potsdam, expected to cost $585,000
• State Rt. 68 from Woodbridge Corners to Canton Village at $554,000.
State Department of Transportation Region 7 Regional Construction Engineer Gary McKinney said that “pavement preservation” generally involves a course of asphalt overlay or some other treatment to extend “the useful life of existing pavement as long as we can.”
Under the “New York Works” plan, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has asked the state Department of Transportation to identify projects “which can be accelerated by utilizing either the conventional design-bid-build project delivery mechanism or the newly-enacted design-build project delivery method,” according to a statement released last week.
