WINTHROP – Brasher-Winthrop Fire Chief Pat Kowalchuck said his department and volunteers from West Stockholm did an outstanding job in containing a fire Friday to the second floor of a house at 296 State Rt. 420.

All six residents of the house got out unharmed after one of them called 911.

The cause of the blaze has not been reported yet, but the chief said there is no reason to believe foul play was involved.

He said the second floor was fully involved when firefighters arrived. The alarm came in at 12:10 p.m., Kowalchuck said.

Tri-Town Rescue was on the scene. Helena firefighters stood by for the Brasher-Winthrop station and Potsdam volunteers stood by for West Stockholm.

Volunteers from the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid.

A National Grid crew arrived to shut off power to the house.

The Brasher-Winthrop Fire Department was back in service at 2:20 p.m.
